ARP S-TU (FST Comfort) internal-pressure ball in tournament quality. The test winner in tennis magazine (May 2004)

The ARP-S-TU (FST Comfort) ball, in all its characteristics and materials usedcorresponds to an official ball used in the team seasonal games intennis of youth and adults in Germany.

The felt used on it is manufactured by WSP Textiles, the felt manufacturer of all team-seasonal game balls sold in Germany.

The branded products marketed at approximately the same price as theARP S-TU (FST Comfort) ball are generally balls with much cheaper neddle felt, whichdiffers from the woven felt used at the S-TU due to the followingdetails:

- damping properties:
Due to the significantly lower thickness of the neddle felt, the ballfeels considerably harder. Especially due to the better dampingproperties a tennisball with woven felt should always be the firstchoice. In the case of internal pressure balls, it should also bementioned that as the felt thickness decreases, the ball softens due tothe pressure loss. With a balanced ratio as in the S-TU, the two effects almost equal over a long period of time, so that there is a costlyfeeling while maintaining the same jumping properties of the ball.

- wear and tear of the felt:
Since needle felt is not woven but consists of a close-meshed carriermaterial of parallel arranged fibers, the durability is given not onlyconditionally. Especially with aggressive spin the felt loses anenormous amount of fibers from the felt composite. These lost fiberscannot be replaced by those behind them and therefore quickly lead to an unplayable ball (even though the internal pressure of the ball wouldhave been sufficient).

Woven felt represents a much more stable alternative. Due to theweaving technique, the felt fibers dissolve much more slowly and, aboveall, more controlledly out of the fiber composite. The fluff locatedbehind the dissolved fibers controls and replaces the lost ones. Thus, the S-TU is given a constant "fluffiness" over a long period of time.

All these advantages make the ARP S-TU (FST Comfort) Ball an economical product for players who value constant product features.
